Tips For Cleaning Dirt And Bug Residue From Your Walls | Busy Bee Cleaning Company

Although the summer sun might be calling your name, one of the downsides of getting out of the house is that bugs and dirt just as often get in. As the season blazes on, you may begin to notice stains accruing on your walls, both from your children’s backyard-dirt-covered hands as well as your own exploits in discovering flies and moths on the wall, only to swat them and wind up with bug residue on what used to be a perfectly white surface.

As lovely as summer might be, some guidance on how to deal with the built-up stains from bugs and soil on your walls may make your summer even better. Courtesy of Busy Bee Cleaning Co., here are some tips on what you can do to get your wall spotless again.

Handling Dirt And Bug Stains

To clarify, when we say ‘bug residue,’ we are specifically talking about the phenomenon of spotting a mosquito, fly, or moth on your wall, squashing said creature with your hand or a tissue, and ultimately getting a small, dark mark on your wall. In contrast, we’re not talking about bedbugs, which is a separate issue on its own.

To wash a stain from your wall, you will need:

  • A bucket
  • Cleaning cloths
  • 1 cup ammonia
  • ½ cup white vinegar
  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • A scrub brush, sponge, and towels

Fill a bucket with clean, warm water, and add the ammonia, white vinegar, and baking soda. Stir well until the baking soda has dissolved; this will create an all-purpose cleaner with some mild abrasive properties. It should be strong enough to remove any staining, but not so strong to damage or wear away the wall material.

Soak a cleaning cloth in the solution, taking care to wring it out afterward. Scrub the dirt or bug residue from the wall. For walls made of porous materials such as stone or brick, use a scrub brush.

After this, remove any residual staining by dribbling baking soda onto a damp sponge and scrubbing the stain until gone. Complete the process by washing off the cleaning solution with a damp cloth. Remember to dry off the space with a towel to prevent dripping and water marks.
